You wouldn’t think this had to be said.  But if you’re in a big apartment building and there’s a flash flood . . . don’t take an elevator down to the BASEMENT.

Nebraska got a ton of rain over the weekend, and parts of downtown Omaha flooded.  So a group of friends decided to go check it out.

A guy named Tony Luu was hanging out with two friends in his apartment.  And they took an elevator down to see if the place was flooded or not . . . and quickly found out it WAS.

There was a huge jolt on their way down when the elevator hit the water.  Then it started pouring in through the cracks, and they couldn’t get out.  One of them was recording with their phone when it happened, so there’s video.  The water kept coming in until it was up to their NECKS.  So they called 911 and said hurry, because they thought they might drown.  But Tony’s roommate happens to be a maintenance guy in the building and got to them first.

They had to pull at the doors from both sides to get it open, and luckily they’re all okay.  It turned out some first responders also rescued four people stuck in another elevator in the same building.

A venomous West African Banded Cobra is on the loose a Dallas suburb.  The pet snake escaped Tuesday (Aug. 3rd) while his owner was trying build an in-home enclosure.  Grand Prairie Animal Services, the owner and a venomous snake apprehension professional could not locate the cobra that night after searching in and around the house.  Experts say it is unlikely to bite, but it’s venom is possibly fatal depending on your body type and there is no antivenom for the cobra’s poison.

Police in New York are warning the public to be on the lookout for a 4 1/2-foot Nile monitor lizard who gave its owner the slip during a move.

Police said a resident was moving out of an apartment when their pet lizard managed to escape its cage and flee more than 100 feet up a nearby tree. Live traps were placed in the area around the tree, but the lizard apparently evaded the traps when it descended the tree and was later in someone’s back yard. Police said the species is known to bite and secretes a venom that could lead to a bacterial infection, but would not likely be fatal to humans.

Sorry Marvel fans, looks like HUGH JACKMAN has no intention of playing Wolverine again.

In a YouTube interview, Hugh said, quote, “There’s nothing in my inbox from [Marvel boss] Kevin Feige [which] means it’s probably, no matter what idea I came up with, not on the table . . .

“It’s still a character I hold close to my heart.  But I know it’s done.”

He added, quote, “Tell that to whoever you want . . . but please tell it to RYAN [REYNOLDS] because he doesn’t believe it . . . he thinks I’m joking.”

TODAY IS……………….

  • “Baseball Fans Day”, today, we celebrate fans of America’s pastime, baseball. Baseball evolved from a British game called rounders and is similar to the game of cricket. Woman Is Suing McDonald’s, Because a Burger Ad Tempted Her to Break Her Lent Fast

If you observe Lent, one of the main points is sacrificing something for 40 days, and avoiding the temptation, like abstaining from alcohol or Big Macs.

But a Russian woman couldn’t make it through, and now she’s SUING McDonald’s because their burger ads were TOO TEMPTING.

She says that in April of 2019, she’d made it most of the way through Lent.  But then she saw a McDonald’s ad and “couldn’t help herself.”  She says she immediately went to McDonald’s and got a cheeseburger. The woman is claiming it’s a “violation of the consumer protection law,” and she wants the court to investigate.  She wants McDonald’s to compensate her for moral damage, in the amount of 1,000 RUBLES.  Which is . . . about $17 Canadian.

The Man Who’s Eaten the Most Big Macs Is Still at It: 32,340 and Counting

If you’re a big McDonald’s fan, you may have heard of Donald Gorske from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.  He’s held the Guinness World Record for the most Big Macs eaten since 1999.

And he’s still at it.

He recently got his record updated to 32,340.  And he knows EXACTLY how many he’s had, because he’s kept the packaging and receipts for all of them.

He first started eating Big Macs in 1972, and has averaged two a day since then.  Although at the beginning, he was having NINE a day.

Donald’s wife, who’s a nurse practitioner, says his diet is “nutritionally deficient” . . . but she adds that his doctors say he’s in “pretty good health” with “exceptionally” low cholesterol.

Donald keeps himself in good shape by staying active and walking six miles a day.  He also usually skips adding fries to his meal.

The Pandemic Has Let Alaskan Whales Get Some Peace And Quiet

The COVID-19 pandemic has allowed humpback whales in Alaskan waters to experience a quieter environment than usual, and there has been a marked difference in their behavior.

The cruise ships that play a big role Alaska’s tourism industry generate loud noises underwater that interfere with the activity of marine mammals. With cruises largely being a no-go during the pandemic, overall marine traffic in the states Glacier Bay dropped by about 40%, the BBC reported in a comprehensive piece about the whales in southern Alaska.

Humpback whales previously stuck close by each other and communicated in less complex ways, similar to people in a loud bar, National Park Service wildlife biologist Christine Gabriele told the BBC. But with fewer ships, whales spread out across greater distances and their whale songs became more varied.

Mothers were observed giving their calves more freedom and even sometimes taking naps, she said.

DAN + SHAY ANTICIPATE ‘EMOTIONAL’ NIGHT AT ALBUM RELEASE CONCERT

Dan + Shay are in the midst of a whirlwind album release week, which includes a Friday (August 13th) morning performance on NBC’s Today show in the morning in New York City followed by a live concert at Centennial Park back in Nashville that evening. The duo will perform music from their new album, Good Things, which will be released that day.

The concert will be Dan + Shay’s first in Music City in over a year. They were only three shows into their 2020 headlining tour — two of which were in Nashville — when Covid halted everything.

Shay Mooney tells us that tomorrow’s Good Things concert will be emotional on many different levels. [“This will be a celebration, just getting to see our fans here, and it’s gonna be definitely an emotional night, but, man, that moment of being up there at Centennial is just gonna be pretty surreal. I mean, it’s gonna be a lot of people. It’s gonna be a lot of our friends and family. We haven’t really gotten to see a lot of our team through this, obviously with Covid, and it’s gonna be definitely a celebration of not only our fans and of this album but also just the people who helped us get here.”]

Dan + Shay will resume their headlining Dan + Shay The (Arena) Tour this fall with new 2021 days.

CHRIS YOUNG THANKFUL FOR HIS ‘FAMOUS FRIENDS’ ON NEW ALBUM

Chris Young has released his latest album, Famous Friends, which is his eighth studio project. The title track and album’s first single, “Famous Friends,” featuring Kane Brown, has already topped the country charts.   Among the 14 tracks, there are three collaborations, in addition to Chris’ many longtime friends who are producers and/or musicians who contributed to the album, which is why Chris tells us he titled the album as he did. [“There’s more guest appearance than I’ve ever had on one project before that’s been a release for me, and then from producers to writers to players, there’s so many different people that got involved with this whether they’re well known to the outside world or whether they’re well known within the circle like Nashville, and that’s kind of a cool way to talk about this record. (It) really is a culmination of all the people that I’ve met and run into kind of putting their arms around this project and me putting my arms around them and huddling up and go, ‘Okay, let’s make some great music.'”]
