On Today’s Show
August 26, 2021 9:35 am➢ New Zealand’s COVID-19 response minister urged people to socially distance when they go outside to, quote, “spread their legs.” (???)
➢ There’s a 14-year-old kid in Edmonton named Anthony who loves basketball, and spends hours practicing in his driveway every day. So when one of his neighbors knocked on his door, he thought they were angry about the constant dribbling. But it turned out they wanted to support him.
Anthony dribbled in his driveway but he didn’t have a HOOP. A neighbour put out a call for help and offers came in from several community members who wanted to donate their used nets, but the post garnered so much attention, the area Canadian Tire swooshed in and donated a brand new net. And now he’s got his sights set on the NBA. His favorite player LeBron James even shouted him out on Instagram.
➢ A recent survey says that only 4 hours and 12 minutes is the actual work time each day. Top things that were listed as time wasters? Surfing the internet, social media, texting, bathroom breaks, and talking with co-workers, are the top 5. Other responses include: Snack breaks . . . coffee breaks . . . “reading and drawing” . . . watching TV . . . phone calls . . . and childcare.
When asked WHY they’re not busier at work, common responses were: There are lulls in tasks . . . waiting on coworkers to finish . . . they’re not motivated . . . they’re distracted by personal situations . . . and the “environment is not ideal.”
➢ “No Time To Die” has a new release date – and they really mean it this time. The 25th ‘James Bond’ film will be launched with a worldwide premiere on September 28 at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and will be released in cinemas 2 days later on the 30th. The hotly-anticipated movie – which will be Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007 – has been pushed back several times due to the coronavirus pandemic and for other reasons. Its first scheduled release date was in November, 2019.
TODAY IS……………….
- “Dog Appreciation Day”, to encourage support, rescue, and help for dogs in need.

THINGS THEY USED TO TEACH IN SCHOOL:
☞ Typing: Typing class isn’t very common these days, because of the belief that kids today are basically born with keyboards in their hands.
☞ Handwriting: Cursive writing classes are on the way out or gone at many schools. But not all educators are happy about it, saying kids learn and communicate more effectively by putting pencil to paper.
☞ Dewey Decimal System: You remember this, don’t you? The numerical system used by libraries to organize books into categories. With the internet, Dewey has become unnecessary.
☞ Latin: Although learning a “dead” language may seem pointless, it helps us better understand our own and other languages, and some professions, like law and medicine, have vocabulary steeped in Latin.
☞ Home economics: Girls used to take ‘home ec’ while the guys went to shop class. But presumptions about gender roles have changed and so has the course curriculum.
☞ Reading analogue clocks: Kids raised on digital clocks may never feel comfortable with the “old-style” of telling time.

Dan and Shay on spreading Country Music overseas
Dan + Shay were among the honorees at last night’s (Wednesday, August 25th) ACM Honors event which took place at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The duo received the ACM Jim Reeves International Award, which honors “outstanding contributions to the acceptance of country music throughout the world.”
After accepting their award on stage, the Dan Smyers told reporters: [“You know, when we started having some more success with our songs and when they started spreading internationally — you know, I think the peak of that was when we did a collaboration on ‘10,000 Hours’ with Justin Bieber. We were getting messages and DMs from all over the world and places we had never been to before and to know that we were one of the folks spreading country music to these different places was an incredible thing, and for us to be a part of that to get this award here tonight is a nice token of that and, yeah, we’re so grateful. It’s amazing.”]
Other honorees last night included Luke Combs, Loretta Lynn, Toby Keith, Lady A and Rascal Flatts.

If You’re Vaccinated, You Can See Garth Brooks on His Dive Bar Tour
Last week GARTH BROOKS canceled his Stadium Tour because of COVID-19 . . . and now he’s figured out a way to get back on stage. He’s doing another Dive Bar Tour, but you have to be vaccinated to go.
He talked about it on an episode of Inside Studio G. Quote, “Because you can fully vaccinate dive bars. People have to have their card to even get in, and the only way to get in through dive bars is your local country station.”
He hasn’t released details about the cities or dates.
By the way, Garth and his team are practicing what they preach. Quote, “I’m 100% vaccinated. Everybody on the tour is vaccinated. Has to be. We’re all vaccinated.”
And this part is classic Garth. He’s still taking care of his team members who can’t get vaccinated because of medical reasons. Quote, “They stay home, but they’re still on the payroll. It’s not their fault [and] they shouldn’t lose their job over that.”
