On Today’s Show
September 16, 2021 9:35 am➢ This happened Saturday at a women’s cricket match in Ireland. The game was interrupted when a dog ran onto the field and stole the ball. Here’s a clip of the announcers doing a play-by-play of the dog stealing the show. (It appears to be a golden retriever on a leash, that got away from its handler.)
➢ A subway outage that hit New York City a couple of weeks ago was actually because someone accidentally turned the power off. Here is the Acting MTA Chairman, Janno Lieber, and subway riders reacting to the news that it was all because a button was accidentally pushed.
➢ A COFFIN was accidentally discovered in a pond at a golf course in Lincolnshire, England in 2018 . . . during a hot, dry summer. Now, archaeologists have revealed that it’s an old Bronze Age relic. Inside were the remains of a 4,000-year-old man, who was buried with an axe.
Experts say the coffin was made from hollowing out an oak tree trunk.
And they believe that the man must have been important, because his body was cushioned with plants and raised over the grave with a gravel mound. The axe was well-preserved . . . and probably a symbol of authority, rather than a tool. The whole thing is undergoing preservation work. And when it’s completed, it’ll be exhibited at a museum.
➢ If someone hit you up on Tinder claiming to be Shaquille O’Neal, and you blew them off because you didn’t believe them, you may have made a huge mistake. On “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last week, Shaq said he DID get on Tinder . . . but it didn’t work out. (From “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Thursday, September 9, 2021)
TODAY IS……………….

25 Years Ago, on September 16th, 1996: “Judge Judy” Premiered in Syndication
It’s possible Judge Judy is the most low key successful TV star of all time. 25 years, 6,200+ episodes, and several hundreds of millions of dollars in salary after she debuted, it’s hard to think of anyone comparable.
Before she was “Judge Judy”, Judy Sheindlin really was a family court judge in New York City. She saw the opportunity to jump into a TV gig when “The People’s Court” . . . the stalwart of televised court shows until the early ’90s . . . was struggling and decided to drop Judge Wapner.
Daytime television had a ““go-to judge” void and Judy, the recent subject of a “Los Angeles Times” profile and “60 Minutes” feature for her notoriously no-nonsense work, caught their eye.
And the casting worked. Daytime TV as a whole was red hot in the ’90s (from Oprah to Springer and everyone in between) and Judge Judy reinvigorated the TV courtroom show, making it a viable alternative to the onslaught of talk shows trying to draft off the Oprah/Springer success.
Then . . . Judge Judy just kinda stuck around. Tons of other court shows popped up, but she always remained at the top of the genre and was paid a fortune in the process. (As of last year, Judy’s approximate net worth was $440 million.)
Her show officially ended on July 23rd of this year with little fanfare (I didn’t even realize it was done until I started writing this), which fits Judge Judy’s quarter century as TV’s low key powerhouse.
She has a new show coming out on November 1st called “Judy Justice” exclusively through streaming. On IMDb TV, oddly enough. Making it big on that platform might constitute her biggest courtroom challenge yet.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS
- Due to the fact that they spend the majority of their lives on sea ice, polar bears are classified as marine mammals, like dolphins, seals, and whales.
- You’d think Disneyland would be friendly to mice, what with Mickey and all . . . but nope. There are about 200 feral cats that roam around Disneyland at night taking out the rodent population.
- Chickens prefer more attractive humans to less attractive ones.
- There are 20 possible answers in a Magic 8-Ball. 10 of the options give you a YES to your question, five give you a NO, and five say the 8-Ball is uncertain. So when you ask it a question, there’s only a 25% chance you’ll get a “no.”

What’s an Unwritten Rule Everyone Should Follow?
What’s an unwritten rule everyone should follow? Here are some of the best answers we’ve seen . . .
- Don’t leave your shopping cart in the middle of the aisle. Move it to the side.
- If someone hands you their phone to show you a picture, don’t look at other photos.
- Don’t start drama at a funeral, or a wedding. And don’t PROPOSE at a wedding.
- Don’t heat up fish in the office kitchen, or anything else that smells.
- Don’t ask for something if the person only has one left. Like a piece of gum.
- If you borrow someone’s car, fill it with gas. Or at least get it back to where it was.
- Don’t end an apology with an excuse, or say things like, “I’m sorry YOU got upset.”
- It’s okay to be wrong. So if you mess up, just admit it and say sorry.
- If you cancel on a friend, it’s your responsibility to reschedule.
- Owning a plunger should be mandatory. (Also toilet-related: People who don’t flush the toilet in public bathrooms should go to prison.)

81% of Homeowners Have Done DIY Projects During the Pandemic
During the pandemic, a lot of people spent more time at home, watching YouTube, and avoiding unnecessary contact with strangers. So it’s not surprising that Do-It-Yourself projects have been on the rise.
In a new survey, 81% of people who own a home say they’ve done at least one project since the start of the pandemic . . . and almost half have done more than four.
Over 40% say their DIY projects were more challenging and expensive than expected. And nearly 80% made a “minor” or “major” mistake.
Saving money is the main reason people DIY. But others include: Having more spare time . . . thinking it would be fun . . . and wanting to learn a new skill.
In a separate survey, 38% of people say they look back on their DIY projects and think, “I should not have done that.” The riskier DIY projects for amateurs typically involve electric, gas, and water.

Study Found You Shouldn’t Take Pills with Coffee, Juice, or Soda
It turns out you might have been swallowing PILLS wrong, or at least chasing them with the wrong types of drinks.
A new study found you should always take pills with water . . . never with coffee, juice, or soda. And maybe not milk either.
Researchers looked at different types of drinks and the effect they have on different pills. They tested five over-the-counter meds we take for pain, inflammation, and allergies. So, things like Tylenol, Ibuprofen, and Zyrtec.
And they found that taking them with anything other than water might affect how your body ABSORBS the medication.
Coffee, juice, and soda can make pills dissolve faster than they’re supposed to. So your body doesn’t have as much time to absorb what’s in them, and they might not work as well. It also happened with buttermilk, which suggests dairy products could do it too. (We don’t know why they chose to test buttermilk instead of regular milk.)
It might not affect some types of pills as much. But unless your doctor says otherwise, they say water is the better option in general.
Elon Musk Wants to Sell Advertising . . . In Space
Doesn’t it just figure that billionaires playing with rockets was going to lead to something like this . . . ELON MUSK wants to sell advertising space IN space.
A Canadian company called Geometric Energy Corporation is teaming up with Musk’s SpaceX to make it happen. Here’s how it’ll work:
GEC is building a satellite called a CubeSat. One side of it will be a pixelated display screen where advertisements, logos, and other art will appear.
A SpaceX rocket will take the CubeSat into orbit and release it. Then, a so-called “selfie stick” on the satellite will film the display screen, and livestream it to YouTube or Twitch, so we can watch whatever’s on it down here on Earth.
Saying that some people aren’t cool with this would be an understatement.
Even though you won’t be able to literally look up in the sky and see THESE ads . . . this news has people wondering if that’s the next step. As one guy put it . . . quote, “So how long until we’re projecting adverts onto the surface of the moon?”
And don’t think Musk, Bezos, and Branson aren’t working on it.
THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 16TH

Reba McEntire Was Touring a 100-Year-Old Building When a Staircase Collapsed
REBA MCENTIRE was taking a tour of a 100-year-old building in Atoka, Oklahoma on Tuesday when a staircase collapsed. She wasn’t on it, and it doesn’t sound like anyone was. There was only one minor injury.
Reba was one of seven people — including her boyfriend Rex Linn — who were inside the 100-year-old building at the time and had to be helped to safety.
The collapse did leave people stranded on different floors. There’s video of Reba and others climbing down a fire ladder from a second-story window.
She posted this on Twitter: “While my team and I were checking out an historical building, a staircase collapsed. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. We were safely evacuated thanks to the quick response from fire and police departments.”
Reba was touring the building for a future project. No word what that might be.

OLD DOMINION ‘FELL RIGHT BACK INTO’ TOUR ROUTINE
Old Dominion are solidly back in the swing of things after a long break from touring due to the pandemic. It didn’t take the band long to feel totally comfortable again, as Trevor Rosen tells us: [“You know, it’s been amazing being back on the road, and one of the weird things is, we just kind of fell right back into the routine. You know, there was the first moment of walking back on stage. That first show was incredible; it was overwhelming, it was emotional. And then after that, we kind of settled into our thing, and now we’re doing what we love to do. So it’s been awesome to be back.”]
Old Dominion’s tour stops this week include Traverse City, MI and Altoona, PA.
They are climbing the charts with “I Was On A Boat That Day,” the lead single from their upcoming album, Time, Tequila & Therapy, which is due out on October 8th.
FAST FACTS
Time, Tequila & Therapy is Old Dominion’s fourth studio album.
They were recently nominated for Vocal Group of the Year at the upcoming CMA Awards, taking place in Nashville on November 10th.
