A resident of Ridgetown, Shirley Kennedy passed away at the Chatham-Kent Hospice on Saturday March 23, 2019, at the age of 83.

Born in Chatham, Shirley was the daughter of the late George and Myrtle (nee Tiffin) Brooks.

Beloved wife of the late Gordon Douglas Kennedy.

Loving mother of Jerry (Dianne) Kennedy, Paul (Janice) Kennedy, Jeff (Lori) Kennedy and Kelly Kennedy, all of Ridgetown.

Grandmother of Rob (Kristi) Kennedy, Brent (Liz) Kennedy, Megan (Jason) Abray, Deryck (Megan) Kennedy, Tara (Allen) Jackson, Greg (Amy-Lou) McGuire, Katie (Sean) Makins, and Shawn (Jessica) Kennedy.

Great-Grandmother of Lerika, Livia, Madison, Ava, Zachary, Ryley, Mason, Angel, Brooklynn, Carter, Nolen, Cohen, Emily, Brody, Asher, and Nevren.

Survived by her sister-in-law Betty (late Trevor) Brooks and brother-in-law Richard “Dick” (Evelyn) Kennedy.

Will be also missed by her many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was predeceased by all her siblings and spouses, Rita (Wendell) Cook, Norman (Lyda) Brooks, Jack (Wanda) Brooks, Maurice (Beatrice) Brooks, Stuart (Muriel) Brooks, Gordon (Ella) Brooks, Edward “Bill” Brooks, Earl (June) Brooks, Robert (Erma) Brooks, and Trevor Brooks. She is also predeceased by her brother-in-law Lorne (late Wanda) Kennedy and sister-in-law Hazel Towsley/Kennedy.

Shirley was an active member of the Ridgetown Branch 243 Legion Ladies Auxiliary for over 20 years. She was also a member of the Marsh St. Baptist Church, Ridgetown.

Visitation will be held at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main St. East, Ridgetown, on Monday March 25, 2019 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Legion Ladies Auxiliary Service will be held at 7pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday March 26, 2019 at 11am. Burial to follow in the Botany Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation or the Branch 243 Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
