Eva Hofstede (March 26, 1937- April 19, 2019)

After a very long struggle with Parkinson-like symptoms advancing to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, our mother Eva has been called home to be with Jesus.

Born in the Netherlands, eldest daughter to Andrew and Fenny Riedstra. She married Hendrick Hofstede on June 1, 1957 and had four children whom they raised in Chatham-Kent. She was an avid gardener and a very active volunteer with the Palliative Care Unit at CKHA for over a decade, Meals on Wheels, A New Beginning, Outreach for Hunger and Friendship Bible Hour. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and Grace Church in Chatham. She was a devout Christian and an avid gardener.

She is survived by daughters Carol Kloostra-Dorie and husband Moe, Marion Hofstede and Irene Hofstede; grandchildren Richard Kloostra and spouse Christine, Adam Kloostra and spouse Christine, Mike Kloostra and spouse Tiffany, Amanda Blackburn and spouse Jason, and Catherine Mayor, and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Gary Riedstra and spouse Chila, Diane and spouse Harry Roffel, Jane Riedstra, Jackie and spouse Jenne Looper, Annette and spouse Ken Jordan, Francine and spouse Les Badder. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son Norman Hofstede, husband Hendrick Hofstede, sister Tina Vandervecht, brother Tom Riedstra and son-in-law Rick Kloostra.

Visitation on April 23 , 2019 from 10 am to 12 pm, with service beginning at 12pm; to be held at McKinlay Funeral Home at 459 St. Clair Street Chatham. Public reception will follow the service at the reception hall, interment at Maple Leaf Cemetery for family members. Donations can be made to Canadian Food for Children Chatham-Kent or World Vision.

She is now a beautiful rose in Heaven’s garden. She will be sadly missed.
