October 25, 2021 11:35 amCumming: Evelyn Josephine (nee Strain) – A resident of Chatham, and formerly of Chatham Township, Evie Cumming passed away at the Chatham-Kent Hospice with family at her side on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the age of 92.
Born in Chatham, Evie was the daughter of the late Robert and Lila (Tiffin) Strain.
Beloved wife of 49 years to the late Murray (1998).
Loving mother to Linda Dunlop (Lloyd), the late Brian Cumming (Judy) and Bonnie Kotwa (Rick).
Proud Grandma to Brady Dunlop (Jennifer), Brett Dunlop (Jessica); Katie Cumming, Bradley Cumming (Kimbie), Laura Pugh (Colin); Karey Senechal, and Breanne Stafford (Chris Bolger).
Great-Grandma to Braden, Parker, Cole, Vaughn, Royce, Sophie, Oliver, Eden, Reed and Sloane.
Predeceased by her brother Beverley Strain (late Phyllis).
Sister-in-law to Malcolm Cumming (late Phyllis). Predeceased by her in-laws Grace Arnold (Clair) and Ross Cummings (Betty).
Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Evie farmed with Murray for over 40 years. They loved going to dances together, and Evie continued to dance until very recently. She enjoyed her winters in Florida, her Hallowe’ens in Frankenmuth, and trailering across Canada to Vancouver and down through the States.
Evie loved to play euchre and pepper at the Legion, the Moose Lodge, the Active Lifestyle Centre and the Village on the Thames with friends and family.
In her earlier years, Evie was very active with the Chalmers United Church, and the UCW. Following the closure of the church she attended at St. Andrew’s United Church.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Friday, October 29, 2021 from 7:00 – 9:00pm. Those planning to attend are required to register online at (https://signup.com/go/JKEMDXd) or by phoning the Funeral Home. The Bereavement Authority of Ontario have mandated that all attendees wear a mask. A Private Family Service will be Live-Streamed on the Funeral Home website at 11:00am on Saturday, October 30, 2021. Interment to follow at McVicar Cemetery, Darrell Line, Chatham Township.
Donations made in memory of Evie to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, Active Lifestyle Centre, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation (Rehabilitation/Stroke Unit) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
