On Today’s Show
April 8, 2021 9:35 am➢ An elementary school in South Carolina broke a world record by setting up thousands of cereal boxes, and knocking them over like dominoes. They were hoping all 6,153 boxes would fall, but it stopped at 3,730. That’s still 300 more than the previous record though. All the boxes are being donated to a food bank. They say it’s enough for 30,000 to 40,000 bowls of cereal.
➢ The entire point of escalators is that they do the walking for you. So why do some people feel the need to walk up them? They’re always bumping into people like me who just want to enjoy the ride. So, should people be BANNED from walking up or down escalators? At least one place says yes. The Saitama district just outside of Tokyo, Japan just banned walking on escalators. Their goal is to get rid of all the bumping and cut down on the number of people getting hurt by moving on escalators.
➢ A drunk woman in Pennsylvania was arrested after she barged into someone’s house pretending to be a cop, and flashed an invisible badge. She just held her palm up and showed it to them.
➢ A couple of years ago, Pete Davidson fibbed to Alec Baldwin about his workout routine, and Alec followed his fake routine and now credits him for losing weight. (From “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday, April 6, 2021)

What Are the Signs That Made You Realize You Were Middle Aged?
It’s hard to say exactly when you become “middle aged” . . . and maybe it’s more of a FEELING than a specific age.
A new survey found the average person doesn’t believe they’re middle aged until they hit 47.
But the survey also asked people to name the SIGNS that they’re becoming middle aged . . . and those start happening a lot earlier than 47.
Here are some of the most common answers . . .
Feeling stiff . . . groaning when you bend down . . . picking comfort over style with your clothes . . . thinking police officers, teachers, and doctors look really young . . . hating loud bars . . . needing an afternoon nap . . .
Realizing you have some coworkers who don’t know what a cassette tape is . . . knowing your limit when it comes to drinking . . . hoping you get asked for ID . . . and giving people speeches on “saving” and “investing.”

Can Performing Random Acts of Kindness Make You Healthier?
When people are in a funk, usually they look to diets and exercise to get them feeling good again. But what if you could improve your mood, just by spreading a little more joy?
According to a new study, putting the well-being of others first, without expecting anything in return, stimulates the reward centers of the brain. And this leads to what they call a “helper’s high.” Here are some other kindness suggestions to help you be happier and healthier . . .
- Volunteer. Find a cause that’s important to you and give them your time. Studies show that volunteering has been shown to minimize stress and improve depression.
- Donate. If you have anything left over in your house that you aren’t using, find a way to donate it to help someone else in need. Donating to others has been shown to reduce blood pressure and can even improve your heart health.
- Give a genuine compliment to someone you care about. Researchers have found that being kind could boost happiness in as little as three days.
- Overtip your delivery person. This brave soul is risking COVID just to bring you food, so it should be a no-brainer.
But if you need more convincing, a new study found that being generous can actually work as a pain reliever. Regions of the brain that react to painful stimulation appear to be instantly deactivated by the experience of giving.

New Study Proves You Should Never Go to Bed Angry
You know the old cliché, “Never go to bed angry?” It’s not just something your great aunt once embroidered on a pillow. It turns out there’s some actual scientific evidence behind it.
A new study at Oregon State University found it really IS bad for you to go to bed angry.
The researchers found that when couples talked out their arguments and both felt better before they went to sleep, they’d have a MUCH less stressful day the next day . . . because the stress adds up and carries over.
And they weren’t just better the next day. Their overall well-being was better than couples who went to bed without working through their fights.

OFF-DUTY FIREFIGHTER REMOVES 15,000 BEES FROM CAR IN GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT
Do you think this person was shopping for some honey? A man parked his car in the parking lot of the Albertson’s store in Las Cruces, New Mexico recently, and when he returned 15 minutes later he found thousands of bees flying around inside the Buick.
He called 9-1-1 and firefighters who arrived on the scene summoned Jesse Johnson, age 37, an off-duty firefighter with years of beekeeping experience. Johnson said it’s common for bee colonies to split in the spring, with thousands of the insects and a queen flying off in search of a new home.
He said the vehicle’s open window likely seems like an inviting location. Johnson said it took about a half-hour to remove the bees from the car and transplant them into an empty hive box—he says the bees will join the four hives he keeps at his home.
The fire department said one firefighter and a store security guard were stung by the bees, but no one was seriously injured.

Man finds missing palace from the Middle Ages buried in his backyard
Charles Pole thought he’d make some extra cash when he decided to build a small suite for himself in his backyard and sell his house on the property.
Instead, the 81-year-old pensioner is paying for the trouble of discovering the ruins of a long-lost 13th-century palace under his lawn in Somerset, England. Pole, who is disabled and lives on his own, said the palace has caused financial problems.
“It was exciting to hear the site contains something of real significance, but the cost of the investigation is going to cost me around £15,000 (about $26,000) and has delayed the bungalow, Historians in the town of Wiveliscombe had been trying to locate the whereabouts of the building from the Middle Ages for 200 years but were apparently digging around the wrong backyards.

CHRIS STAPLETON TRIES TO IGNORE OTHERS PEOPLE’S EXPECTATIONS
When you have success, pressure and expectations are part of the game, as Chris Stapleton will tell you, but he makes a point to ignore it and instead focus on the connection he’s making with his audience.
He tells us: [“I think it’s perfectly human that you become aware of expectations as you go along, but I very much try to ignore them – either my own or someone else’s – of what something should be musically, because I’m not sure that’s a healthy space to be making music in, not in a good way anyway. I want the experience of the music and I want to bring an experience to people listening to music in a way that we can have a connection, and in a way that they can have a connection with other human beings. That’s the ultimate goal for me.”]
FAST FACTS
Chris is nominated for Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Album of the Year for Starting Over and Song of the Year for “Starting Over” at the ACM Awards on April 18th.
Chris is also set to perform during the live broadcast from Nashville on CBS beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
