July 10, 2026 12:01 pmThe United Nations has launched a new exhibition celebrating the power of sport to transform lives.
At its core is a stunning mural by Vancouver artist and human rights advocate Carling Jackson, featuring football players whose lives have been shaped by displacement and the refugee experience. If you’re visiting Toronto, you can also see a reproduction of the mural at Union Station.
One of those featured is Canada’s Alphonso Davies, who was born in a refugee camp in Ghana after his parents fled conflict in Liberia. Today, Alphonso is the captain of the Canada’s Men’s National Team and also serves as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.
This exhibition is a powerful story of resilience, opportunity, and excellence. It reminds us what is possible when people are welcomed, supported, and given the chance to thrive.
At a time when the world feels heavy, it really is inspiring to see Canadian talent, compassion, and inclusion recognized & applauded on the world stage.
A life-size reproduction of her painting is also displayed at the Union Station in Toronto.
