My New Favourite Addiction
December 11, 2018 1:31 pmSo for a while I couldn’t stop watching Long Island Medium. My new old favourite indulgence is Who Do You Think You Are? and today I am sleep deprived because I couldn’t turn it off last night. It’s funny how when we’re young we don’t mind going without sleep. At 47 I know I can’t do what I used to. (chuckle). I may be napping in between songs today. Kidding. Kinda.
Who Do You Think You Are is this incredible show about family history. It’s from the British BBC series of the same name. In every show, a different celebrity goes on a journey to trace parts of his or her family tree.
It’s so interesting to watch as they follow the generations and learn about the people that came before them. What they did, what the world was like. Last night Josh Duhamel ventured to England and found his 12 grand grandfather embroiled in a political/religion scandal that involved torture. His 12th great grandfather was high up in society but there was great fear if you weren’t a certain religion.
John Stamos travelled to Greece to unravel some secrets in the family that involved murder.
It makes you think of your own family background and what kind of stories are there to discover.
My cousin is a huge researcher in our family. She loves genealogy and loves to discover who our family was. It seems our family tree somehow leads us to Thomas Edison.
I have dabbled in our family tree for a school project with our kids and it’s so interesting to see just what you can find on Ancestry.com. I just recently treated myself to a month membership to see what I can find. It’s a bit of an addiction when you start doing the research and getting more and more hints.
I just found out my nana was a factory worker once upon a time. Interesting.
My great aunt (pictured below) was a sergeant in the army! And looking through Ancestry.ca has reconnected me to her son Chris – my dad’s cousin.
Have you ever researched your family tree? Did you find any cool stories or interesting connections?
