Thank You Petrolia And District Skating Club
April 8, 2019 2:42 pmI had the chance to M/C for the Petrolia & District Skating Club Carnival on Sunday at the Greenwood Rec Center in Petrolia, and it was so much fun. And slightly terrifying. For TWO reasons.
Let me explain.
Every single time I am asked to host something like that, I think I surprise people when I say “that’s terrifying, but I’ll do it”, but it’s the truth. I get super nervous before any kind of public speaking. Yes, I realize my job requires me to do just that, but it’s different in the comfort of your control room studio, no eyes ON YOU. (smile) The idea of standing up in front of a crowd of people gets my knees knocking and my palms sweaty.
Every hosting job is different. It puts you out of your comfort zone for a bit. You’re doing a job you’ve never done, as similar as it might be. And let me say, climbing a ladder into the “broadcast booth” was not on my list of things I imagined I would have to do at a skating show. (smile)
I paced the floor for half an hour before finally making up my mind to do it. Once I made the climb, and realized how high up we were, I felt like I may just take up residence there, because the thought of trying to get back DOWN the ladder was even more frightening. I can’t even make this up.
But the group I got the chance to meet and work with were all amazing. They helped me through the nerves and jitters. To my partner in crime up in the booth, Cheryl, who played the songs for the skaters, helped me with my anxiety and fear of heights – thank you (your husband too!) for helping this girl make it back down to earth safely and for the fun we had working together. I have a greater appreciation for the skaters, and the coaches and parents and volunteers.
To the skaters – you guys truly ROCKED your performances! I was so impressed with your skating! I would be lucky to not fall on my butt putting skates on my feet, but you were all so amazing. Each performance was incredible! You should all be so very proud of yourselves! I know just how much time and energy goes into every practice. I know just how much you love to do what you do and how much that show meant for you yesterday.
Well done!
Thank you Petrolia & District Skating Club for asking me to be part of such a special day for everyone.
