Grease Is Still The Word – 40 Years Later

It’s one of those movies I’ve watched a million times. I’ve watched on my own and with my kids.   Grease.   And only the original.  You just can’t make a Grease 2 and expect the same results.

John Travolta.  Olivia Newton-John.

Danny Zuko.  Sandy.

Summer nights.  Hopelessly devoted.  Grease is the word.

I know every lyric to every song.  I know the dialogue.

The songs.  The characters.  The swooning.

As John Travolta says in this clip – every guy wanted to date Olivia and every girl wanted to be her.

I don’t know if that’s true of everyone, but I sure did.

I loved the idea of this innocent, and cute girl who meets this dream guy and discovers this whole other side of herself.  She doesn’t lose herself to be liked.

And who didn’t love Danny? The cool guy who fights for the girl. And he was cool.  A “greaser”.  Fast cars.  Leather jackets.  Greased back hair.

I think every girl wanted a Danny Zucko.

40 years later, Grease is still the word and just as popular as ever, and so are the stars!

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John reunited this weekend to celebrate their iconic 1978 movie, hosting the first of three “Meet ‘N’ Grease” singalong events in Florida.

AND – they wore the same outfits they first wore in the movie.  Olivia in her “good girl” outfit, yellow cardigan and skirt, and John wore his T-bird black leather.  And he looked just like he did in the movie 40 years ago.

Seriously.

Oh how I wish I could have been there.  To share the movie, and sing along with the enormous crowd,  and do it with the stars of it.

What an amazing experience.
