Anybody Else Feeling This Way?

The world can feel like a really dark place.  Covid-19.   Politics.  You don’t have to spend too much time online to come away feeling down and defeated, irritated, exhausted, frustrated, sad, angry.  The list goes on.

The online world can leave you feeling very discouraged, it’s true.

I’ve read before about being “soul tired” and I think that’s me right now.

Not just the headlines, but other life “stuff”.   It can all feel really overwhelming, can’t it?

What do you do when you reach that point?  The news headlines are all negative.  Comments online can be downright cruel and insulting.  You wonder how it can get better?

Do you take a break from social media?  Turn off the news?  Find a way to turn it around?

How do you stay safe from the negative talk that is out there?   How do you protect yourself from it all?

I workout almost every morning.  I leave my phone in the other room so I’m not tempted to check social media.  I have to stay away from the headlines created to create panic and anxiety.

And I avoid the comment sections!  Those will just make it all so much worse.

But when I start feeling “soul tired” – I try to take a break from everything.  I will step outside in the middle of the workday and just look at the sky, the trees, the birds. I will step outside of the craziness.  We work in an industry that has certain expectations on us.  To be bright and cheery, positive, energetic.  Truth be told, it’s not always so easy to wear that mask.

At home, I still push my kids to go for a walk.   We hit the trails in Canatara Park this past Sunday and it was so nice to just get away from it all.

I think it’s important to take that break.  To get away from the noise.
