Focus On The Good

I can’t say I have ever been through anything like this in my lifetime.

I’ve been doing my best to stay positive. To avoid the panic and anxiety trap. I’ve forced myself to stop and take a breath. I’ve had to force myself to step away from the computer and stop looking at the headlines that are ever changing.

I’m a little more on edge right now. I’m feeling anxious and uncertain, like so many people are. We can’t control what’s happening around us right now but we CAN control HOW we react. We can do GOOD. We can be a light in the darkness.

I admit my initial reaction these last few days has been fear based. Lots of information and big changes to the world and our community. It’s uncertain. It’s uncomfortable. It’s unknown. We can’t control what’s happening around us. But we can control how we react and what we think and do.

Wash your hands. Often. Stay home. Buy only what you need. Grocery stores are staying open and our food supply is strong. Give where you can. Donate to the food bank. They need our help more than ever. Offer to pick up groceries. Check in with others.

Make sure no one feels alone. In this social distancing and self isolation there will be people that will be more alone than ever and not everyone has Facebook or social media.  Be the one to reach out and make sure people are okay. Send an email, text a friend.

Don’t get stuck reading the headlines. Take an online break. Be careful who you follow and what you share on social media. It can be so damaging. Stop being hateful and negative. It’s not the time to criticize those trying to help. We all have the ability to do good and be kind and compassionate right now. Let’s do that.

And be kind to yourself. Exercise. Go for a walk. Read a book. Do that puzzle. Play a game with the kids. Dance in the living room. Make yummy home cooked meals and bake sweet treats. And be thankful for all that is good.
