The View From Here – Checking In, Are You OK?
January 7, 2021 2:04 pmAre you doing okay? And please, answer honestly. My heart is feeling pretty heavy today after yesterday’s events. Added on to the already tiring pandemic.
So I’m investing in some self care today and trying not to get too caught up in the emotions of what’s happening around us.
It’s easy to get caught up in those headlines. What happened yesterday in Washington was unimaginable. It’s hard to put into words how I’m feeling right now.
It can be too much. Too much sadness. Too much anger. Too much hatred. It’s so very sad and slightly terrifying.
It’s not our country and not our election. But I think we all feel it. We feel the hurt and the despair. We feel the pain and the frustration.
I was getting caught up in the news headlines this morning and it was becoming too much so I had to make an effort to turn it off and do something else. Something positive.
So I made a decision. To not let the bad outweigh the good. To take care of me.
Today – I choose love. Love for myself and a love for other people. Yep. Deal with it I’m going to love on you too. (smile)
I drank my coffee, stared out the window a little too long, watching the sun come up. Watching “my birds” at the feeder and then I got my workout in. Exercise. It’s so good for you and helps deal with all those emotions.
It’s easy to get caught up in all the negative going on around us. It can get overwhelming. Feeling helpless. Even a little hopeless.
That’s when you need to make a decision. To be the light in the darkness. To be the good in the bad. To not let it hurt you.
So, today, I choose love. And kindness. Compassion. Empathy. I choose to look for the good that is still out there.
Today I am choosing love.
Love for myself and a love for other people.
Today I am choosing kindness, compassion, empathy and I am going to spread that stuff all over the place and I hope you’ll join me. We can band together and as cheesy as it might sound, start spreading that love and kindness all over the place – because man oh man, this world needs it.
Anybody up for the challenge?
