The View From Here – What Day Is It Anyway?

Yesterday I thought it was Wednesday.

All day long.

I thought it was Inauguration Day.

By the end of the day I wondered why I wasn’t seeing anything online or anywhere. Did I seriously MISS IT? I actually ASKED someone I worked with.  “What time is this inauguration?  Did I actually miss it?”

By the time I figured it out, I was more than a little embarrassed.

A little bit relieved I didn’t miss the excitement of the day. But I couldn’t understand how I could miss something so big and mix that up.

Has that ever happened to you?

I very much blame the pandemic. I am working at home and have been since April. It’s so easy to feel disconnected and out of touch from the world. Even with the internet at your fingertips, I still got lost in the day. I was even convinced my favourite show – This Is Us – would NOT be on because of the Inauguration and all the events.

This is the part of working from home, and following a stay at home order that is so hard.  We don’t have conversations with people anymore outside our home. If I had been at work yesterday, I would have said something in conversation to another co-worker who would have laughed at me for way too long for thinking it was Wednesday – I didn’t have that. And your personal bubble on social media isn’t always the best reflection of the world around you. If you’ve mixed up your days – you aren’t alone. If you’ve forgotten events or celebrated them early – you aren’t alone.

So just to remember.  It is WEDNESDAY.  Sigh.
