The View From Here – Dear Younger Me

What words of wisdom would you pass on to your younger self?

Melissa McCarthy just shared a letter she wrote to her younger self and it’s getting applause from women, celebrities included, all over the world.   She wrote a list of advice for future self, sharing the importance of what really matters.  Love.  Acceptance.  Family.  And cookies and shoes.  (smile)

I don’t even know where I would start.

Dear younger me –

  • Stop looking at your flaws and love your reflection.  Your ears aren’t nearly as big as you think they are.  (smile)  I used to hate my ears.  I always had braids or pigtails and I always felt my ears were sticking out and I always tried to hide them.
  • Trust your instincts.   If it feels wrong, don’t do it.
  • Don’t bury your feelings and don’t be afraid to ask for help.  Some loads are too heavy to carry on your own.
  • You don’t have to be liked by everyone.  Stop trying so hard.
  • It’s not your fault.  Stop making excuses for that situation and blaming yourself.
  • Get in the picture.  Don’t wait til you’re thinner, prettier, etc.
  • Tell your mom you love her, you appreciate her, and want to be just like her.

What will your letter look like?  What do you wish you knew then?  What do you wish someone had told YOU?
