The View From Here – New Hair, Who Dis?

I did it!

I cut my hair.  Chopped it.  Short.  Brought back the bangs.  No regrets.  Just smiles.  And a new attitude.  Why should we only make big changes January 1st?   I believe we should reinvent ourselves and do things to make ourselves better all the time.

I have to admit, I’ve never been this excited about a hair cut, but it’s been “a year”.  Some people think haircuts and fitness classes aren’t essential.  I beg to differ.

Feeling good about ourselves and taking care of our mental health is important, and I don’t know about you – but getting a haircut is just as valuable to my mental health as any therapy session.  Cut a few inches off, take on a new style, or new colour – and you’ve just reinvented yourself and brought back into your life a whole lotta joy.

As I sat in the chair, chatting with Kelly at Rock N Micks – I realized just how important these people are to us.  The ability to transform us with just a haircut.  Sitting in the chair, chatting away IS a therapy session.  It’s nice to be able to talk about anything.   And I was told how much WE matter to them.  How much they have missed us, and doing what they do.

As the hair got cut away, I felt a huge weight lifting from my shoulders in other ways.  The weight of the past year.  Restrictions. Rules.  Social distancing.  Isolation.  Loneliness.  Frustration.  Anger.  And truth be told I was hoping I’d see a drop on the scale (smile).  There was a LOT of hair!

And nope, I still don’t look like Jennifer Aniston or Julia Roberts (smile) – but I FEEL younger, lighter and happier. And more like ME than I’ve felt in a very long time.

Nope.  Never just a haircut.  Never just hair.  Powerful.

Mind you, it’s going to be a few days of awkwardness again as I try to figure out how she did it and adjust to making it my own again.  We never can replicate what the stylist does in their magic chair,  can we? (smile)

What do you do for yourself when you fall into that feeling of overwhelm or blah?  Is it a hair cut that brings you back to life so-to-speak?  Is it something else?

So happy.

Now my husband has me considering getting a tattoo.  It was something I thought about when I hit the 40 mark.  This year is bigger.  50 seems to be a big deal.  So maybe I’ll be the girl with the dragonfly tattoo.  In remembrance of my family lost too soon, and my strength.

Any recommendations?  Do you have a tattoo?  Is it something you got later in life?  How do you celebrate birthdays/ getting older?  Let me know!

Let’s stay connected – email me anytime!
