Diana – The Musical
October 5, 2021 1:39 pmI admit when I saw “Diana – the Musical” show up as a new add on Netflix I cringed a little.
I LOVE Princess Diana. I followed her story. I watched the wedding in the early morning hours. I remember the tabloid headlines as she went through her divorce. I watched “that” interview where she shared details of life inside the palace with a husband who was not faithful. I read the book “Diana – Her True Story -In Her Own Words”. I felt for her as the fairytale broke apart. I watched as her life became her own and she fell in love and was starting over. She was coming into her own. No need for a title. She showed love and compassion. She was passionate about helping others. She was really growing into what people loved about her and earned her the title “the people’s princess – queen of hearts”.
This musical surprisingly captures her life very well. I’m sure, like the Crown, it’s BASED on truth and the story we think we know. But it tells the story well. We see in just under a few hours her life.
I expected to be disappointed. I expected to hate it and find it ridiculous. But the power of music and song really does bring her story, her life, and her heart – to life.
The ending – we all know – was done beautifully. Highlighting the fact she had just found her role in the world. She wanted to be the bright light to change the world and make a difference.
And then she was gone. So tragically. I still cry when I remember that day. And when I watch her old interviews and specials.
Gone too soon. So much brokenness. The unfairness of it all.
So if you are a fan of the royals and have a space for Diana in your heart – watch it.
It’s so good and so worth it.
