The View From Here – I Can’t Help My Obsession
October 19, 2021 1:51 pmYou can’t help who you love.
And anyone who knows me well, knows that my heart belongs to Duran Duran. A band I have followed since I was a teenager. Makes it tough to realize the band you grew up with is celebrating a “40th anniversary” because that means I am old too. (smile)
Since the first self-titled album, and the 45 singles I bought as a kid, and the posters on the wall – Duran Duran have been “my” band. I love music of all types, and I love the new stuff as much as anybody. I have many favourites in many different types of music – but only ONE true love band. Silly? Maybe.
I had their posters on my walls. I imagined what I would do or say if I ever got the chance to meet them. Still hoping it happens in my lifetime. #bucketlist
There is just something about them and their music that I love.
So there is a bit of excitement right now as the world waits on the new album “Future Past” out October 22nd. I’ve already pre-ordered my special clear vinyl edition album that should be shipping soon.
I’ve loved the new singles – Invisible, More Joy, Tonight United and most recently Anniversary. They just released the video for it yesterday and it’s a work of art by itself.
“Directed by BAFTA-winning artist, photographer and filmmaker, Alison Jackson, whose widely published work explores the cult of celebrity, using highly-styled lookalikes and actors. The video was shot over three days at the historic Belvoir Castle in the UK, which dates back to the 11th century.”
It really is so much fun to watch. You’ll wish you were invited to the celebration, which features “celebrities” like Sir Elton John, The Queen, Daniel Craig, Lady Gaga, Dolly Parton, Madonna, Brad Pitt, environmental activist Greta Thunberg, I think, is in it, making an appearance among so many others. Along with four young men, playing the role of the band members themselves from their early days making music. At least 22 “celebrities” in the video.
It’s fun, it’s entertaining and even funny at times. Kim Kardashian floating in the pool, the Queen playing poker with the boys. You don’t even have to love the band to appreciate the work in this new video.
They still got it.
Now if someone could arrange that bucket list item to be checked off, that would be great.
The only band that I have always loved and have owned every album – or cassette – by. Obsessed? Or greatly loved? A little of both maybe.
I absolutely love this band and all the music they have released over the – gulp – 40 year career.
What is YOUR band? Who have you followed their entire career?
Let me know!
