March 7, 2022 11:28 amMake sure you are listening this week for a chance to win tickets to see the incredibly talented Chantal Kreviazuk at Sarnia’s Imperial Theatre on March 11, 2022 at 8pm.
Chantal Kreviazuk – one of Canada’s most accomplished songwriters and recognizable voices –released her eighth studio album, “Get to You,” last year. The album features 11 songs, all written and produced by Chantal with Dylan Wiggins.
Chantal says “This album means so much to me because it has a positive message throughout about self-love, acceptance and perseverance,”
Choosing to release an album during a global pandemic was easy for Chantal saying, “The wonderful thing about music is that it is always welcomed and needed. In times of crisis, it offers solace and comfort. Without question, now is the time to release music.”
So many songs from her career that we will be playing for you all week long. Listen for the music and the stories behind the songs. Like this one.
“Surrounded” comes from her 1997 album Under these Rocks and Stones and she explains why the song is so powerful for her. Saying it’s the reason for singing and writing songs. Music is there to heal us and to offer comfort. For her, she explains, writing music is her coping mechanism.
The song comes from a painful experience for Chantal. When she was about 18, the boy she loved took his own life. She remembers working at a restaurant, calling home to ask if she could keep the car, and her dad told her she needed to come home. There was something in his voice that told her something was wrong. Chantal says that event was very traumatic and has impacted her whole journey in life and says she wrote the song “Surrounded” about that boy Samuel and about what it felt like to be told something so horrible.
The power of music. To help and to heal.
Get your tickets now and keep listening for a chance to win.
