Do You Know What TODAY Is?
March 24, 2022 11:06 amIt’s “Breakfast Club Day”!
March 24th is that infamous day when The Breakfast Club was formed during their Saturday detention. One of the greatest movies to come from the 80’s. Another John Hughes classic. Still loved. Still appreciated. Staring Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, and Ally Sheedy.
It was this day. A Saturday in 1984. A princess, a brain, a criminal, an athlete, and a basket case all came together for detention and the movie is what happens in that detention. How these very different characters actually came together, and came to understand each other. They were strangers. Didn’t even know or like each other. But by the end of the day, they would never be the same.
The movie has been praised for it’s honest depiction of teenagers and probably one of the biggest reasons it’s still relatable today. My 19-year-old loved it so much she’s got the movie poster on her bedroom wall. The movie shows just how hard it is to be a teenager, trying to be understood and trying to fit in and find a place. To be seen.
It’s honest and real. It’s why we love it so much. So today we celebrate “Breakfast Club Day”.

Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. What we did *was* wrong. But we think you’re crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. What do you care? You see us as you want to see us – in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. You see us as a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess and a criminal. Correct? That’s the way we saw each other at 7:00 this morning. We were brainwashed.”
