We Miss You Already

I tried to log into the Fox Facebook account today only to find it is only a shadow of what once was.

If you open it – you will see our logo in the profile pic spot.  But nothing else.  A simple line reads “No posts to show”.  That’s it.  Our existence on social media is gone.  Just like that.

We apologize and we miss you already.  We are truly sorry for everyone who likes us, connects with us and shares with us through social media.  All those funny quotes, daily questions, daily trivia – have been removed from site in our Canadian eyes.

We knew it was coming.  In all honesty, I thought it was just not going to show up in our feeds.  I thought we could still search each other out and stay connected.

All the news sites /pages have been or being removed.  Sarnia News Today is still there for you online at www.sarnianewstoday.ca and you can ask your smart speaker to play the latest news.
I thought it was just not going to show up in our feeds. Nope.

It’s all just gone. All our posts. Posts of our on locations, concerts, funny pics.  Canadians can’t see those.

Meta has gone through with it.  Blocking news on Facebook and Instagram in Canada in response to the Online News Act, which was passed by Canada’s Parliament in June.

Not really sure how this works to anyone’s benefit.  “The Online News Act (Bill C-18) “ensures fair revenue sharing between digital platforms and news outlets.”

Our government wants tech giants like Meta and Google to pay Canadian news outlets for driving valuable traffic and profiting from posts published on their sites.

Not going to lie.  It’s a sad day in Canada.

But we are working to see how we can make it work and stay connected with you.
