The View From Here – Dandelion Wishes

When is the last time you made a wish?  Over candles on a birthday cake maybe?  I’m trying to remember the last time I made a wish.

I was listening to a podcast with Brendon Burchard today and it got me thinking.  It spoke about the power of love and gratitude, but then there was a full discussion on the power of wishes and how so many of us get caught up in the busyness of the world, and are just trying to get through each day, that we stop making wishes.  I think that’s sad because I know it’s true.

I don’t remember the last time I made a wish.

Wishes, dreams – one in the same.

What are YOU wishing for?  What are you wishing for your family?  For your friends?  For your community?

I remember when I was younger, throwing pennies in a fountain.  That ages me in more ways than one.  (smile) Anybody else remember the fountain that used to sit inside Bayside Mall?  And pennies?  They are long gone too.  There was just something magical about throwing a penny in the fountain and making a wish that made you feel – even for a second – that anything was possible.

Or dandelions.  How many times as kids did you pick a dandelion and make a wish before blowing the little feathery seeds into the air with all your hopes for what was possible.

As he said in the podcast

“I think a lot of people have forgotten what they wished for. We’ve got so busy and so caught up in the politics, the drama, the social media, the comparisons, and the judgements, the vitriol, and the to-do’s. That sometimes we forgot the wish. What do you wish for in life?”

“Today so many people feel discouraged. Trapped in all the uncertainty. Or frustrated by the progress they are making. Sometimes when you are frustrated or discouraged you stop wishing. You’re just trying to handle life and you forget to ask anything of it.

Maybe today you write down your wishes.
