The View From Here – Happy Thanksgiving!
October 9, 2024 3:02 pmI will be taking the next few days off – not just to get ready for Thanksgiving – but to celebrate my birthday! and bring our daughter home from college for a few days. Let me tell you, when your kids leave home, it never gets easier. We are still adjusting to the emptiness.
I want to wish you a very happy Thanksgiving. I hope you take time to spend time for yourself and enjoy time with friends and family. I’ll be cooking a turkey, and making my mom’s famous stuffing (I will never be able to make it as good). We’ll have mashed potatoes (can we just take a minute to ask WHY potatoes are so expensive??? ugggg) sweet potatoes with marshmallows (because it’s really good!) Brussels sprouts if I can still find them, and carrots or corn or both. Most likely some Pillsbury cresent rolls because I’ll probably forget to get fresh rolls or they will be sold out by the time I get to the store again. (smile) We will have a pickle tray – with pickles and olives, cheese and beets. And I plan on making pumpkin pie. By making it, I buy a pre-made shell, and open a can of pie filling. And yes it will be covered with whipped cream because that’s how you eat it. (smile).
But before all those celebrations – it’s my birthday tomorrow. I don’t mind sharing I will be 53. I normally get really excited leading up to my birthday but for some reason I haven’t this year. Maybe it’s all the life changes, and the fun side effects that come with getting older. Women will understand.
What do you do on your birthday? Do you like to celebrate? Do you make a big deal out of your birthday?
The last few years I have taken the day to myself. I like to grab my FREE birthday coffee from Starbucks, go for a walk through Canatara, maybe sit by the water. Lots of reflecting on the year gone by and thoughts for what I hope the year ahead will be.
Birthdays are pretty special because they belong to you. Holidays, like Thanksgiving, (which I almost always share with my birthday by the way lol) are for everyone. We all share it. Birthdays are just for you.
I’m looking forward to a relaxing day and hopefully some cake.
I go into this weekend feeling super thankful for so much. Thank you for sharing your days with me and for reading these blogs. I hope you have a wonderful weekend however that looks to you.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Carrie.
