What Are You Reading Right Now?
November 28, 2024 2:58 pmOne of my goals that I had for myself in 2024 was to read more. More real books and less Facebook walls. (smile)
I’ve managed to read more than I did last year, which is good, but I want to continue that trend. To read more, I realize I have to let go of some things and find time and be less “busy”.
Can you relate to always feeling busy?
I picked up a book recently about finding a way to eliminate the hurry in our lives and it made me so aware of so many ways that I create a state of hurry.
I feel it when I’m driving. I feel it when I wake up in the morning. As soon as I open my eyes my brain goes into overdrive thinking about the list of things to get done. It’s hard sometimes to settle myself and just sit still and drink my coffee. It’s so unrealistic to think about a million things in the first thirty seconds of opening your eyes but how many of us immediately feel the need to jump into action because of all the things we NEED TO DO right now?
It’s CRAZY!
I got a lot of out this book. Taking time to sit still, with your own thoughts. Some of the suggestions offered – drive the speed limit. Gulp. Like, the ACTUAL speed limit? Who does that anymore? (smile) I will say sometimes I hate being on the road anymore because it can feel too fast for my liking.
When you’re out shopping – pick the longest lane. Keep your phone in your pocket. And just wait with your own thoughts. Too many of us don’t even allow time to think for ourselves. We’re overloaded with information coming at us every minute of the day.
Put your phone to bed like you do your kids. Don’t touch it for an hour after you wake up. Set a time limit for using social media or email. Take the apps off your phone – like your social media and email. Could you? I haven’t been able to do that. But now I’m much more aware of how often I reach for my phone.
The point of the book being we miss so many moments in life caught up in the busyness of it all.
I’ve started leaving my phone at home in the morning when I take my dog for long walks and just taking time to appreciate the moment and soak in all the sights and sounds.
I love a book that has the ability to help you see your life differently and even offer some ways to improve it.
I’m ready for a life with less hurry. More stillness. More quiet. Less busy.
If you want to check out the book — Ruthless Elimination of Hurry.
