New Music Monday – Wham! Fans Will Love This
December 16, 2024 10:01 amI was so excited to see this as a huge fan of Wham! and George Michael.
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of one of the most loved Christmas songs of all time, WHAM!, George Michael Entertainment and Sony Music have released the Last Christmas 40th Anniversary EP.
The EP features all the original 7″ and 12″ versions of the song, plus George Michael’s performance of the song at London’s Wembley Arena in 2006.
The EP is available now on limited edition 12″ snowflake white vinyl, 12″ picture disc, 12″ zoetrope picture disc, and is also available on CD and digital. (Dear Santa, yes please!)
This release comes with the incredible news that the song has reached its highest-ever chart position in North America on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number two.
People still love this holiday classic and being able to hear George Michael again, and watch his last performance of the song is the gift we didn’t know we needed at Christmas.
Originally, the song was released by Wham! in December 1984. It went to number one in 16 countries and is officially fourth highest-selling single of all time in the UK. The song has been to number one on the charts multiple times over the last 4 decades, with over 5 billion combined streams.
40 years later – it’s still one of the most popular songs – covered by many other artists including Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan who dueted the iconic song last week on Carpenter’s A Nonsense Christmas on Netflix.

Also, something for you to watch about the band on Netflix — WHAM!: Last Christmas Unwrapped, a brand-new Christmas special that tells the story of how George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley’s WHAM! turned one song into a seasonal phenomenon. The film brings together a number of people that helped to create this timeless hit. It brings together a group of people from the original music video in a familiar location (the stunning snow-covered backdrop of Saas-Fee in Switzerland).
You’ll see new interviews with Andrew Ridgeley, Pepsi DeMacque-Crockett and Shirlie Kemp, and through archived footage, we’ll get to hear from George Michael too. The special includes Mary J Blige, Bob Geldof, Neil Tennant and Sam Smith, who give their views on the meaning of the song.
