Turn Back Tuesday – Culture Club “Karma Chameleon”

It was the number one song on the charts this day in 1984.

One of Culture Club’s most iconic songs – Karma Chameleon was released in 1983 and would go to number one on the charts for three weeks in 1984.

Boy George described the song as addressing “the terrible fear of alienation that people have, the fear of standing up for one thing.” It’s about the consequences of not being true to oneself, leading to “Karma-justice.”

Some fun facts –

That famous harmonica in the song was played by Judd Lander, a session musician who also worked with The Beatles and Paul McCartney.

And the song was so successful – it made enough money to fund the entire record label for an entire year.
