Guess What Show Premiered This Day In 1982

Family Ties premiered on this day in 1982.

Anybody else remember this show? It followed the Keaton family—liberal parents Steven and Elyse raising kids in suburban Ohio, including fashion-obsessed Mallory, tomboy Jennifer, and of course Alex P. Keaton, the young Republican who made Michael J. Fox a superstar.

It was all about family, laughs, and a generational clash of values—hippie parents vs. their business-loving son.

It aired Wednesday nights during the first two seasons.  In the show’s third season, it started airing on Thursday nights.  In 1987, for it’s sixth season, it was moved to Sunday nights where it stayed until the series’ seventh and final season on May 14, 1989.

The show won multiple awards, including three consecutive Emmy Awards for Michael J. Fox as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

It was one of my favourite shows.  I loved the cast so much I wrote to them (at my mom’s encouragement) and still have this picture (autographs on the back) and a letter from Tina Yothers, who played Jennifer on the show.
