The End Of An Era – Goodbye George

It’s the end of an era.

My heart hurts a little today because we’ll never have this team again after today.

So many emotions.

I’m thankful for what we have shared over the years.  So many years working together on the Fox, but also in the same building.  Different positions, different stations.

I know that we are lucky.

It certainly won’t be the same without George.  We’ll miss his jokes, his sarcasm and his wit.  We might even miss his talk about spreadsheets.  (smile)

Change is hard and I don’t like it.

I’ve worked with George since I started as Felix the Fox – the station mascot.  That was the summer of 1991.

Over 30 years ago. Different stations. Different on-air positions. We worked together for a short time in Chatham which is a whole other story.

I co-hosted the morning show for a short period in time in 2005 – 2006.

I never thought we’d see a day where we weren’t all working together. I kinda thought we’d all be done working together at the same time.  It’s hard to imagine us not together.

Change can also be a good thing I guess. We’ll wait and see what and who comes next. Don’t ask me because even I don’t know.

A day like today also leaves me thinking about myself – my career, my impact, my legacy because I’ve seen the impact George’s career has had on so many people in the community and in this building – including myself.

I hope that I do the same. I hope I have left a positive impact on this community as well and continue to do so because this is what it’s all about.  It’s a chance to put a smile on your face or make you laugh.  It’s a chance to connect over everyday things and hopefully make a positive difference in the world.

We really do have the best listeners on the planet in a community that we all love.

And for those asking — I have now started a countdown to my retirement. If I make it to 65 – my retirement date is October 10th 2036 – that is in 10 years, 10 months and 21 days, which is 3,979 days.

It will be on a Friday and in week 41 of 2036. So start planning accordingly, and someone check and see that Duran Duran is available. 😉
