Happy International Women’s Day (Belated)

I didn’t get the chance to wish you a happy International Women’s Day on Sunday, and I missed the chance yesterday because I took a “me” day. A mental health day.

Have you done that before? Have you taken time for yourself? Not in a selfish way, but in a way that you know you are doing your very best to take care of yourself.

I figure International Women’s Day is to celebrate women for all that they are and all that they do.

Their strength. Courage. Fierceness. Boldness. Talent. Ability to do it all.

But if you’re not that or don’t feel that right now? I’m with you.

I don’t feel any of those things, despite the messages I got on Sunday to remind me I am.

Life can feel really hard and we have to remind ourselves that somedays you don’t have to have it all together.

I think it’s so important to stay connected with yourself so you identify when you’re having a hard day.

I think it’s so important to pay attention to what you need and not be afraid to step back and say “You know what? I’m feeling the weight of the world right now, and I just need a minute to catch my breath.”

Aging parents, empty nests, hormones — not sure if they are impacting you, but they are impacting me in a big way.

Yesterday was a day to recalibrate. To eat popcorn for lunch and cereal for dinner and to take a break from the heaviness of the world, and adult responsibility – even just for a minute.

To check in with myself and remind myself of who I am and want to be.

I feel so lucky to be surrounded by amazing women in my life in so many different areas. We need to be purposeful with doing that. We need to lift each other up, and inspire each other and most importantly support each other and lean on each other when we need to.

Don’t wait for International Women’s Day to share with someone who inspires you. Do it today. Do it everyday.

Encourage others. Build each other up. Motivate each other.

Together we are stronger and it’s sure nice to know you can lean on others when you’re having an off day.

Much love,

Carrie B.
