Jay’s review #3:  A Visit From The Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan

I’ll say right off the bat… I did not love this book.  Maybe it’s because I just finished reading not one but two of the best books I’ve ever read, so my expectations were sky high.  But they SHOULD be high, this book won the freaking Pulitzer in 2011 and has been named one of the best books of the decade!

My final analysis?  Meh.  I didn’t really laugh, I didn’t really cry, and I didn’t really fall in love with any of the characters or their stories.  It was fine, but just fine.

Tori’s review #3:  Mary Jane by Jessica Anya Blau

I know we’re not supposed to judge books by covers, but this was a book I saw in a store and bought purely because the cover called to me. It’s someone holding a record, so like, obviously?!

Reviews say that it has the feel of Daisy Jones & The Six (my favorite book EVER, by the way). I really don’t agree with that. Other than the both stories taking place in the same decade (the 70s) and both dealing with rock ‘n’ roll, that’s it! I keep describing it as sweet. It’s a heartwarming “coming of age” story of a young girl who’s the summer nanny for a “deviant” family from her own… and by deviant I mean the dad treats celebrity addicts & the mom never wears a bra.

It’s sweet. I recommend as an easy-read, but it’s certainly no Daisy Jones!
