Mix Mornings BOOK CLUB – Some Nice August Reads

My book is one that was recommended by almost everyone in my family so I had to read it.  Anxious People by Fredrick Backman is sort of about a bank robbery, but not really.  It’s also sort of about a hostage situation… but not really.  There’s a lot to unpack here, so let me just say it’s thoroughly enjoyable and not quite as serious as Beartown, another great book of his.  It does deal with subjects like suicide, depression, capitalism and more… but it’s also crazily funny.  4.5/5 stars.

Tori discovered this author after falling down a pretty deep YouTube rabbit hole. Michael Pollan is a journalist and plant expert, who’s dedicated a lot of his recent work to understanding “mind altering plants”. Of course we’re talking psychedelics, but also stuff like caffeine. This book delves specifically into opium, caffeine and mescaline, and it’s just suuuuuper interesting. It’s part scientific, historical, anthropological & biographical. I dig it. 4/5 stars
