1987 Buick Grand National
June 29, 2021 10:55 amThe 87 Grand National is a full size , 5 seat, full framed car which was the fastest production car in that year – fitted with only a 3.8 6 cylinder turbo motor. The way I describe it is- you can load up the family, go to the grocery store to buy some food, drive to Pt. Stanley for a picnic then drive to the Sparta racetrack to blow the doors off of a few Mustangs and Corvettes and then drive home and still have half a tank of gas. Unfortunately the Grand Nationals success was the cause of it’s demise. GM could not allow what was seen as a ‘grampas’ car go faster than their flagship, the Corvette. As such, 1987 was the final year for these beauties. However, as a consolation, the Grand National ushered in a new wave of muscle cars that are still produced today (in my opinion).
