A ‘Third Eye’ For Smartphone Addicts

A “third eye” has been developed to keep “smartphone zombies” from stumbling into objects while staring at their devices. Paeng Min-wook, a South Korean industrial designer, claims that the robotic eyeball can be fastened to a person’s forehead, allowing them to browse without injury. He described the device as a “satirical remedy” that he hoped would cause people to “recognize the intensity of their gadget addiction and look in the mirror.”

… When The Third Eye detects that the user’s head has been dropped to look at the phone, it opens its translucent eyelid. The third eye beeps to warn the person when they are within one or two meters of an obstacle. The Third Eye measures the angle of the user’s neck with a gyro sensor and calculates the distance between the robotic eye and obstructions with an ultrasonic sensor.
