Celebrity Status – Taylor’s Everywhere, Madonna’s Tour And RIP Suzanne
October 16, 2023 9:10 amFor Monday, October 16th:
In news that surprises no one… Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ concert film danced to number one at the box office over the weekend with about $96 million in North America, the biggest opening for a concert film of all time. (If you account for inflation, Justin Bieber‘s movie would be slightly ahead.) It should continue to do well before it heads to streaming… part of the AMC deal was a 13-week exclusive theatrical run.
Taylor also surprised viewers of Saturday Night Live, showing up to introduce Ice Spice as the musical guest. Pete Davidson was hosting and poked fun at himself with a Barbie-inspired musical number. And Taylor’s rumoured boyfriend Travis Kelce also made a separate surprise appearance on the show
Suzanne Somers, best known for playing the spunky Chrissy on ‘Three’s Company’, has died. In a statement, her longtime publicist said she passed away peacefully at home Sunday morning, a day before her 77th birthday.
A 20-inch model of an X-Wing fighter used in the filming of the original Star Wars movie in 1977 has set a sales record, selling for more than $3 million at auction. And a complete Stormtrooper outfit from Star Wars sold for $645,000.
The Queen of Pop kicked off her tour celebrating 40 years in music after postponing it earlier this year due to illness. Madonna was joined by her daughters Lourdes and Mercy on opening night in London England over the weekend. The anniversary tour will come to North America in December.
