Celebrity Status – BAFTAs, Box Office, Bridgerton And SNL50

For Tuesday, February 18th:

At the box office, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ exceeded expectations with a $100 million take over the holiday weekend. Second place at this week’s box office went to “Paddington in Peru” and the slasher movie “Heart Eyes” landed in third place

Saturday Night Live‘s 50th anniversary special on Sunday night was watched by nearly 15 million people. It was a night filled with nostalgia and humor, with a veritable who’s who of who ever was anybody on that show, and numerous cameos, including Aubrey Plaza who gave a nod to her late husband, Meryl Streep, Jack Nicholson and others who have appeared on the show. Paul McCartney performed the final song. One reviewer said “there was plenty to love about “SNL50.”

Britain’s version of the Oscars, the BAFTA Film Awards took place over the weekend too… ‘Conclave’ won Best Film and three others, ‘The Brutalist’ took Best Director and Best Actor for Adrian Brody, and two more. Other winners included Mikey Madison, Zoe Saldaña and Kieran Culkin. Emilia Pérez. won the award for best film not in the English language, and ‘Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl’ took home the award for best animated film.

Halsey, Doobie Brothers, Metric, The Lumineers and Bare Naked Ladies all have summer dates in Toronto at Budweiser Stage. BNL will be there on July 25 with opening acts Sugar Ray and Fastball and tickets on sale now

NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon says he’s ready to partner with Tom Cruise on a ’Days of Thunder’ sequel. He has been in touch with Tom and both would be on board if it were to happen

The first Bridgerton season 4 footage has arrived, with the promise of big chemistry between Benedict and Sophie. And enjoy this little peek into season 4… the real thing won’t likely be here for another year and a half. (Oh well, I guess it’s something to look forward to… in addition to spring!)
