Celebrity Status – Box Office, Bills Extras, And Gaga Bomb Threat Thwarted

For Monday, May 5th:

At the box office, the anti-hero movie ’Thunderbolts’ kicked off the summer movie season with a $76 million opening in North America, a little shy of some of Marvel’s more spectacular openings but good reviews should keep it going for several weeks. ‘Sinners’, starring Michael B. Jordan was second with $33 million, and ‘A Minecraft Movie’ landed in third.

And with the box office and movie industry in America in some dire straits, President Donald trump has announced 100 percent tariffs on non-U.S. films, declaring them ‘a National Security threat’.

Police in Brazil said on Sunday that two people were arrested prior to a free Lady Gaga concert in Rio de Janeiro, in connection with an alleged plot to detonate explosives at the event. There were more than 2 million fans on Copacabana Beach, and local police said nothing about the alleged plot until afterwards in an effort to “avoid panic.”

It’s almost time for Hallmark Christmas movies! Well, not quite but Hallmark Media is looking to cast extras in their movie ‘Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story!’ Bills fans that are interested can go to castingbuffalo.com/castingbillsextras to sign up. The registration deadline is May 9 at noon EST.

In other headlines, Conan O’Brien picked up the Kennedy Center’s 26th Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Although the event took place in March, the ceremony was on Netflix last night.

And Sabrina Carpenter made a surprise cameo on SNL during Quinta Brunson‘s monologue. The two stars — of rather petite stature — performed a song all about honoring short people.
