Celebrity Status – Nelly, Sydney, Spidey, And O Canada
October 28, 2025 10:03 amFor Tuesday, October 28th:
What some called a ‘deplorable’ rendition of O Canada was performed at the World Series last night. Toronto singer-songwriter JP Saxe was also slammed for changing the lyrics to the anthem. Saxe made headlines back in August when he announced he was cancelling his North American tour due to low ticket sales. Tonight Deborah Cox will sing O Canada at Dodgers Stadium. Games 6 and 7 are still TBD… so yeah, I’m available. Call me!
Another Canadian artist, Nelly Furtado, has announced that she will no longer perform live for the “foreseeable future” after online critics body-shamed her for her appearance onstage. In her Instagram post she said, “I still love writing music and I have always seen it as a hobby I was lucky enough to make into a career. I’ll identify as a songwriter forever.”
In the lead-up to her buzzy new boxing biopic ‘Christy’, Sydney Sweeney revealed a new goal: reality TV. In an interview with Variety this week, she said she would like to do The Amazing Race with The White Lotus director Mike White, who has been on seasons 14 and 18 of the show. He figures with her he would finally win.
The Walt Disney Co. will once again present a live, animated, alternative broadcast of an upcoming NFL game. This time it will feature characters and a stadium set in the world of Pixar‘s Monsters Inc. The special edition of Monday Night Football, called Monsters Funday Football, will be televised Dec. 8, when the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Los Angeles Chargers. In previous years they used the themes of Toy Story and The Simpsons.
Spider-Man fans have reason to keep their hopes up for new Tobey Maguire movie. Co-writer of “The Batman: Part II”, Mattson Tomlin wants Maguire to reprise the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man and then we would see his life as a family man. Sooo… balancing work and life like the rest of us!
