April 22nd is the 112th day of the year. There are 253 days remaining until the end of the year.

It’s Movie Night at the Capitol Theatre.

Stop by tonight at 7 p.m. to see Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

Admission is $7 or flash your movie pass for entry. Check here for more info.

The Lyrid meteor shower will hit its peak tonight, sending up to 20 shooting stars an hour streaking overhead. These aren’t just faint flashes — the Lyrids are known for bright, fast fireballs.

We’ll be seeing tiny bits of Comet Thatcher burning up as Earth plows through its debris trail.

The view will be just after midnight if you can get to somewhere dark, look toward the northeast near Lyra, and give your eyes time to adjust. No telescope needed. Just patience.

Today is Earth Day.

Earth Day has been celebrated by billions the globe, annually every April 22nd to promote awareness for the health of our environment. The first ever earth day was 1970.

Before 1970, there were basically no laws protecting the environment. Factories could pump out as much smoke as they wanted, or dump toxic waste in rivers, and it was perfectly legal. Earth Day helps raise awareness for environmental causes. According to EarthDay.org, the first Earth Day helped pass the Clean Water Act, and also got U.S. President Nixon to create the Environmental Protection Agency.

The Earth Day 2026 Theme is Our Power, Our Planet.

To mark Earth Day, The Beer Store will hand out more money than usual for their empty alcohol containers.

You will receive an additional 20% deposit value on containers with a 10 or 20 cent deposit when returned them to the Beer Store today only. Empty wine, spirit, and beer containers bought in Ontario will be accepted, but kegs are excluded from the offer.

Use the locator on the Beer Store website to find the nearest store to take their empties or just click here.

More than 170 billion empty alcohol containers have been returned to the Beer Store for reuse or recycling throughout its nearly 100 years in operation.

Today is Administrative Professionals Day, previously known as Secretary’s Day, it’s always celebrated on the Wednesday of the last full week of April.

During World War ll there was a shortage of people with the skills of an administrative professional. This was due to the birth-rate decline from the Depression era and booming post-war business. In 1942, the National Secretaries Association was formed in order to recognize the contributions of administrative personnel to the economy, support their development, and attract workers to the field. During their first year as an association, they created National Administrative Professionals Day.
