The Chatham-Kent Barnstormers begin their Canadian Baseball League season tonight.

Season kicks off against the Guelph Royals at Fergie Jenkins Field at 7:35 p.m. The Barnstormers will travel to Kitchener on Sunday.

It’s Victoria Day Weekend.

It’s a holiday that’s only celebrated in Canada and it’s often referred to as the unofficial kick off to Summer.

The holiday has been observed in Canada since at least 1845, originally falling on Victoria’s actual birthday, May 24, 1819.

The holiday always falls on the Monday between the 18th to the 24th. It’ll actually fall on the 24th in 2021.

Victoria Day is a federal statutory holiday, and a holiday in six of Canada’s ten provinces and all three of its territories.

All municipally operated splash pads are scheduled to open this weekend.

The splash pads will be open from this weekend through Labour Day long weekend, pending weather.

Talbot Trail Place Splash Pad and the Merlin Kinsmen Park is not operated by the Municipality and their operating dates may differ.

LCBO and most Beer Stores will be closed on holiday Monday. The Richmond Street location is the only local Beer Store that will be open locally, from 11-6 p.m.

The LCBO and Beer Store across Ontario will be open for regular hours for the rest of the weekend.

Chatham-Kent breweries will be open all weekend!

The Windsor-Detroit Tunnel is expecting heavy delays this Victoria Day weekend.

The Toronto Blue Jays make their only visit to Detroit to play the Tigers this weekend.

The Detroit Pistons and the Cleveland Cavaliers could tip off for with a possible Game 7 on Sunday, adding downtown congestion.

Travellers should allow extra time, especially in the 90 minutes before first pitch Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
