Chatham-Kent’s Organic Waste Diversion Program is moving forward to reduce the amount of food and organic waste sent to landfill.

C-K residents can now purchase a subsidized backyard composter for $20 (HST included). Composters can be purchased at the Chatham Civic Centre, Blenheim, Dresden, Ridgetown, Tilbury, or Wallaceburg Municipal Office. You can also purchase by phone by calling 311.

Backyard composting lets you turn food scraps and yard materials into nutrient-rich soil, reducing garbage and creating a useful product for gardening.

Chatham’s Bridget Carleton will play her first regular season WNBA game in Canada on Saturday in Toronto.

Carleton’s Portland Fire will take on the Toronto Tempo at the Coca-Cola Coliseum at 6 p.m. The Fire and Tempo are meeting for the first time. Both are in their debut season.

Bridget turns 29 tomorrow and will have plenty of family and friends in attendance. There are still tickets available.

Google showed off their latest device this week: “smart audio glasses.”

This is their return to the wearable eyewear market after the earlier failure of Google Glass.

These glasses, developed with Samsung, will let users take calls, listen to music, capture photos, and use the Gemini AI assistant.

They’ll compete directly with Meta, whose Ray-Ban smart glasses dominate the market.

The glasses will be released in the U.S. first, and Canada shortly after. No price has been announced yet.

This August, Kingston will honour The Tragically Hip 10 years after their final concert.

A three-day Forever Hip celebration marking the 10 years since the band’s emotional final concert after frontman Gord Downie was diagnosed with incurable brain cancer.

August 20 to 22 will include tribute concerts, art installations, a screening of the documentary Long Time Running, and a public rebroadcast of the band’s final 2016 performance, which was watched live by more than 11 million Canadians.

The final Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs tonight.

Colbert — a vocal critic of President Donald Trump — announced in January that the final episode would air on May 21st after CBS decided last year to cancel the highly rated late-night program.

CBS says the cancellation is for financial reasons, though supporters argue politics was the major reason.
