Greenview Park & Zoo opens for the season today.
Take a trip to see domestic and exotic animals such as tigers, lions, jaguars, zebras and many more. You’ll also be able to view tropical birds, waterfowl and reptiles and play on the playground, splash pad and picnic area.
This is the 43rd season in Morpeth, the park is open until Thanksgiving weekend.

The Chatham-Kent Barnstormers will play their first home exhibition of the season tonight.

The Kitchener Panthers will be at Fergie Jenkins Field for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Admission is $5.
The regular season opens a week from tonight against the Guelph Royals.

Tomorrow is another Household Hazardous Waste Day.
Residents can safely dispose of household hazardous material at no charge. A list of acceptable material can found here. Hosted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and Waste Connections of Canada Ridge Landfill.
The drop off is at Veolia Environmental, at 141 Prosperity Way from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
The next household hazardous waste day will be on Tuesday, June 9th (8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Sunday is Mother’s Day. Celebrated in about 60 countries including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, New Zealand, Turkey, and the USA.
The modern holiday of Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at a church in Grafton, West Virginia.
More North Americans normally eat out on Mothers Day more than any other special occasion.


This weekend is the 2nd free fishing weekend of the year.
This means you do not need to buy a fishing license if you want to fish during:
- Mother’s Day Weekend (May 9-10)
- Father’s Day Weekend (June 20-21)
- Family Fishing Week (June 27–July 5)
During all other time periods, Canadian residents between the ages of 18 and 64 years must purchase a valid fishing license to legally fish in Ontario. Go here for more information.
