Mars is launching a version without artificial dyes on Amazon in August, but for now there won’t be any blue or brown candies. Why? Blue is proving tricky to make naturally—spirulina algae keeps causing problems on the production line—and brown actually depends on blue colouring.

They are already using ingredients like beets and turmeric for other colours and hopes to have all six shades back in naturally coloured M&M’s by 2028.
