Free family fishing week kicks off this weekend in the province.

It’s one of only four times a year, that Canadian residents can fish in Ontario for free. This means you do not need to buy a fishing licence if you want to fish during free fishing week.

It will also be the last chance of the year to fish without a licence.

Free Family Fishing week runs from June 27–July 4.

The Wheatley Fish Fest kicks off tonight.

Friday is the Uptown Hoedown featuring live music, kids activities and food vendors.

Saturday will feature the car show, food vendors, live music and plenty of activites uptown, followed by the famous broasted chicken and pickerel dinner from 5 pm – 7 pm at the Wheatley Arena.

The event wraps up on Sunday with the Fish Fest Boat Parade at 7 pm at the fireworks finale at 10 pm.

The 14th annual Blenheim Classics Autoshow is this weekend.

The auto show will line the downtown streets tomorrow from 9-3. First come, first served.

With a lot going on locally this weekend and the first full weekend of summer, it looks like the forecast will cooperate.

According to Environment Canada’ well see a high of 24C on Saturday with sunshine on and off, then Sunday will be milder, a high of 28C and nothing but sunshine.

Meanwhile, it’s a different story in Europe.
The southwestern part of the country is dealing with a dangerous “Omega” heatwave with temperatures ranging between the upper 30s- mid 40s.
France recorded its hottest day ever, reaching 44.3C on Tuesday. The extreme heat is expected to peak this weekend.
