The Ridge Runners East Kent car group will host the fourth Hot Rods for Hospice benefit on Saturday at the University of Guelph – Ridgetown Campus.

All vehicles will be displayed from 8-4 p.m.

There will also feature food, entertainment, vendors, and activities for kids and families. Participants of the car and tractor shows will receive dash plaques and be eligible to win a selection of door prizes.

The event is free admission for guests, but cash donations for the Hospice will be appreciated.

There is a fee for vehicles, vendors, and swap meet participants. All proceeds will go to the Chatham-Kent Hospice.

The Ontario Hockey League season is underway.

The Windsor Spitfires will open the season in London tonight. The Spits home season begins on Saturday night at the WFCU Centre vs London. The Sarnia Sting begin in Sault Ste Marie tomorrow, and won’t play their first home game until October 2nd.

The 20 OHL clubs will play a 68-game schedule.

Tomorrow is a Household Hazardous Waste Day.

Hosted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and Waste Connections of Canada Ridge Landfill.

The drop off is at Veolia Environmental, at 141 Prosperity Way from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Residents can safely dispose of household hazardous material at no charge. A list of acceptable material can found here.

The Terry Fox Run will take place this weekend around the world.

This annual fundraiser carries on Terry’s dream of raising funds for cancer research in Canada.

When Terry was 18-years-old, he lost his leg to cancer. After going through 18 months of treatment, he couldn’t ignore the suffering he saw in cancer wards. Terry decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research in the Marathon of Hope. In 1980, Terry ran all day, every day, for 143 days. On September 1st, after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres, Terry was forced to stop running outside of Thunder Bay. Cancer had spread to his lungs. Terry died in June 1981.

Tomorrow is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

The idea for the day was born in 1995 on a racquetball court in Oregon. Two buddies began throwing around insults, just like pirates and the rest is history.

They selected September 19, simply because one of the guys had recently divorced, it was his ex-wife’s birthday, and he figured “the date was stuck in my head, and I wasn’t going to do anything with it anymore.”
