The 2026 International Plowing Match & Rural Expo is underway today in Walkerton, Bruce County.

There are plowing competitions, a range of activities for people of all ages, numerous opportunities to learn about agriculture, near-constant live entertainment in multiple Match venues, hundreds of vendors and exhibitors. It runs until Saturday.

It’s Rail Safety Week, running through September 27th, with Operation Lifesaver Canada reminding Canadians to make safe choices around railway tracks and crossings.

More than 2,100 people are killed or injured every year in railway crossing and trespassing incidents across North America. More than 60% of collisions happen at crossings equipped with lights and or gates.

Safety officials say to always expect a train, stay alert around tracks, and remember trains have the right of way.

In Ontario, drivers should stop at least five metres from the nearest rail, and never go around a lowered or lowering gate.

Trains can travel on any track, in either direction, at any time — and they can’t stop quickly.

The message this Rail Safety Week: look, listen, live — and make the safe choice around trains and tracks.

The home of the Detroit Tigers is getting a new name.

Comerica Park will become Fifth Third Park starting next season. The change follows Fifth Third Bank’s merger with Comerica, which was completed earlier this year.

Comerica Park has been the Tigers’ home since 2000, and the original naming-rights agreement was extended through 2034. The Tigers say new signage will be installed during the offseason, with the new name in place for opening day next March.
