The 103rd Annual North Buxton Homecoming kicks off today and runs through Monday.

Organizers have planned for a full 4-day weekend celebrating African Canadian heritage, family reunions, children’s activities and the best of small-town hospitality. The weekends events begin Friday and end on Monday with the Homecoming Parade (starts at 12:30) Parade ends at the Buxton Playground with children’s activity stations, food vendors, beer tent, craft vendors and car show.

Local breweries Sons of Kent, Bayside Brewing, Red Barn Brewing, and Glasstown Brewing Co. have teamed up for BrewFest 2025; Outdoor summer parties hosted at the breweries sponsored by Teksavvy.

Tomorrow is FarmFest at Red Barn.

Brewfest series will wrap up with RiverFest next weekend in Wallaceburg at Glasstown.

The Bank of Canada has unveiled the design of the new $20 note, featuring King Charles III.

It’s the first Canadian banknote to carry his image, replacing the late Queen Elizabeth II, who has appeared on Canadian bills for decades.

The new note is vertical, with the familiar green colour and updated security features designed to make counterfeiting harder. The new $20 will be put in circulation in February 2027..

On the other side of the bill is an image of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, which is located on the site of the 1917 Battle of Vimy Ridge in France.

Rogers Stadium in Toronto suffered significant damage during Wednesday’s storm.

Large portions of the venue’s seating area suffered significant damage. Crews are now assessing the facility and working on cleanup, but it’s not yet clear whether the concert schedule will be affected.

The last show of the season is scheduled for September 16, when AC/DC is set to perform.

It’s the Labour Day long weekend – the unofficial end of summer.

Labour Day is observed on the first Monday of September in Canada and the United States, recognizing the contributions and achievements of workers. The holiday also has deep roots in the labour movement and the fight for improved working conditions and workers’ rights.

In Chatham-Kent, municipal offices and most services will be closed Monday. Ride CK will not operate on Monday, and residents should also expect waste collection to be delayed by one day next week.

The Beer Store on Richmond St., in Chatham, Blenheim and Tilbury will be open – all others are closed. The LCBO will be closed. Local breweries will be open.
