Respiratory illnesses, including the flu, COVID-19 and RSV, can lead to serious complications, particularly for older adults and people with underlying health conditions.

C-K residents can get vaccinated through their family doctor, local pharmacies, the MobileCare Bus, BridgeCare or CK Public Health clinics, depending on eligibility and availability.

The Chatham Kinsmen Club is hosting a birthday party Saturday, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Kinsmen Club room at Erickson Arena. Elmer will be there, and kids can enjoy birthday cake and hot dogs. Everyone is welcome.

The Elmer character was originally created by a Toronto Police Sergeant in 1947. In 1951, George Nuttall (a past president of the Chatham Kinsmen Club) and his wife fashioned the very first physical Elmer mascot suit out of chicken wire and papier-mâché. Since then Elmer has been a longtime symbol of child safety in the community.

If you prefer booking your Air Canada travel over the phone, you will now pay an extra $30 per person, plus tax.

The new fee took effect last week and is non-refundable, even if you later cancel your ticket.

The charge applies to new reservations made through Air Canada’s call centre, including Aeroplan reward bookings.

Air Canada wants customers to use its website or mobile app to reduce call centre wait times and free up agents for more complex requests. There’s no fee to book online, and customers needing specialized assistance, including accessibility support, are exempt. Calling for help with an existing booking or a flight disruption is also exempt.
