October 26th is the 299th day of the year. There are 66 days remaining until the end of the year.

Could see some foggy patches this morning, with sun and clouds to start the day. Today’s high is 18°C.

Temperatures stay above normal this week, with a chance of rain possible on Thursday.

The very early Trick-or-Treat forecast: Cooling off through the evening, but only a small chance of rain, with temperatures around 10-14°C.

It’s Election Day.

The polls are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at polling stations across Chatham-Kent. Voters will decide on Mayor, Councillors, and School Board Trustees.

The Royal Canadian Legion’s annual Poppy Campaign is underway, giving Canadians a simple way to honour those who served and sacrificed for our freedom, while helping support Veterans and their families.

Poppies are available at participating businesses and local Legion branches, with donations accepted. This year, the campaign runs until Remembrance Day, November 11th. There’s a new way to make a donation – by tapping your debit card, credit card or digital wallet on a volunteer’s smartphone.

If it seems early this year for the campaign, it is. The Legion has confirmed that October 24th is now the permanent annual start date, replacing the previous start date, the last Friday in October. The change is meant to give Canadians more time to wear a poppy, raise money for Veterans and their families, and help schools, businesses and community groups plan ahead.

Every donation to a local Poppy Fund helps support Veterans and their families in that community. Find out more at Legion.ca.

A huge donation for The Terry Fox Foundation last week.

The Foundation received a record-breaking $25-million donation to help advance cancer research across Canada — and a federal matching program doubled that impact to $50 million.

The money, donated by the Larry and Judy Tanenbaum Family Foundation, will support a national network of more than 1,300 researchers at over 60 institutions, sharing data and discoveries to improve cancer treatment.

Terry began his Marathon of Hope in 1980.

The Chatham-Kent Film Group will screen Run Terry Run next Monday at Galaxy Cineplex.

There is a “Sports Equinox” tonight.

That means all four major North American professional sports leagues — MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL — have games scheduled.

Here’s what’s on the calendar:

  • MLB: World Series Game 3
  • NFL: Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles
  • NBA: Nine games scheduled
  • NHL: Three games scheduled, including the Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Calgary Flames

A Sports Equinox has happened 32 times since 1971, including the most recent on October 27th, 2025. There’s been at least one Sports Equinox every year since 2015. The record for a single year is three, both 2020 and 2022.
