Canada is one step closer to choosing its first-ever Eurovision contestant, and now it’s up to Canadians to help decide who gets the chance.
Eurovision is one of the world’s biggest music competitions, bringing together countries from across Europe and beyond. Each country sends an artist to perform an original song, with the winner decided through a combination of public voting and judges. The competition has been running since 1956 and has helped launch the careers of stars like ABBA and Celine Dion.
Canada has never competed before, making next year’s appearance a first for the country. The five finalists are Quebec singer William Cloutier, Acadian singer-songwriter Josiane, Montreal dance-pop artist Rêve, Ottawa pop-rocker Talk and B.C.-born singer Tyler Shaw.
The five finalists are William Cloutier, Josiane, Talk, Tyler Shaw and Rêve. Canadians can vote online, with up to 10 votes per person. Voting closes at midnight, and the winning artist will be announced in December. That artist will represent Canada when the competition takes place in Bulgaria next May.

An old NASA telescope made an uncontrolled return to Earth yesterday after more than 22 years in orbit.
The 3,200-pound observatory re-entered Earth’s atmosphere Wednesday, burning up over Indonesia. NASA expected most of the spacecraft to disintegrate, although some smaller pieces may have survived the fiery descent. A rescue attempt involving a robotic spacecraft failed earlier this year, and NASA has now shut down the telescope.

Starbucks‘ holiday tradition returns today, bringing back its festive red cups and a little holiday cheer.

This year’s designs feature holiday trees, ribbons and bows, with traditional Starbucks red and green alongside mint, cranberry, antique gold and creamy white colours. There’s also a first-ever holiday design for the dogs — a 3.5-ounce pup cup featuring a beagle named Junie.
November 17th is Red Cup Day. Customers who purchase a handcrafted holiday drink will receive a free collectible, reusable holiday cup, while supplies last at participating locations.
